Galaga! Or... it tried to give us Galaga...

This Galaga machine had seen better days. The screen kept showing corrupted text and graphics, and trying to start a game just kind of froze it for good. EEPROM rot, I guess.

Once upon a time, there was an arcade system from Konami called the Bubble System, which used a magnetic bubble memory device for the ROM storage. Bubble memory was kind of like a shift register; you couldn't just read an arbitrary address from it, but had to instead shift all the ROM data off the end of the chip, rewriting it to the beginning as it went... and the read/rewrite was far from perfect, so the games would literally rot at random every time they were played. This must have had a certain, uh, charm to it.
